Jashan Bhoora | me

My name is Jashan Bhoora. I'm a third year undergraduate studying Computer Science with Embedded Systems Engineering (MEng) at the University of York.

I love to mess with technology. I like taking devices apart, learn the intricacies of how they work, and see technology interact with the real world to make things better for us. As a result of this, I have a special interest in physical computing and CAD/CAM. I'm also an avid "Maker", and a big believer in the do-it-yourself "Maker Culture".

Building upon this, I enjoy working with projects that employ platforms such as the Arduino, Raspberry Pi and mbed - generally, microcontrollers/platforms that can be integrated into bigger devices. Nevertheless, I'm also fascinated by what computers can do within themselves, especially in terms of CGI and special effects, leading me to experiment with softwares such as Adobe After Effects and Autodesk 3DS Max.

More recently, I have become more involved in Capture the Flag events - cyber security competitions run by various organisations, with the general idea being to exploit computers in a safe and legal environment, all in the name of education and fun.

I work on a variety of programming platforms, and my repertoire is constantly evolving. I currently have the most experience with C/C++, C# and Python, as well as a few web technologies including PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript. For example, this site uses the Python Flask microframework on the server side, with a minimal, responsive frontend. Applications of these technologies, both hardware and software, can be seen in the projects detailed in my blog posts and portfolio.
